New Songs, New Neighborhood

As I write, Jeffrey and Colleen are playing on the floor in the playroom.
Shannon is in school this morning and working hard on her German. In a few
minutes I will need to go pick Andrew up from school and then take the kids
to the park until Shannon gets home.

It's a challenging time.

For starters, just because Shannon's in school doesn't mean that work stops
for me. There are still support letters to write, meetings to organize,
upcoming events to prepare for... This often means working late at night to
see that those things get accomplished too. But in the last two days I've
had a cold and just needed rest. It's not good when the kids are faster
than I am!

During the days though I'm trying to make the most of my child-caring
experiences. Yesterday we scouted around the neighborhood parks to see who
was out and get a better idea of when and where we need to be certain places
this summer. In the afternoon I was able to be outside with the kids for a
while, just here in front of our house, and played with one of our
neighbor's sons. Starting next week Andrew has two weeks off school and I
can see already that being outside at the parks will be a necessary for
survival! I'm hoping though that there will be more people out with their
kids than yesterday... It's time to start meeting more of the people in our
area and pushing against that language barrier that has made that difficult
until now. It's hard not to be impatient for that, even when I know in my
mind that our focus this month is Shannon's class participation.

When I'm not chasing after one of the kids at the moment I'm also doing some
songwriting. Music is both my greatest interest and one of my areas of
natural talent but in the past it's been hard to justify giving time for it
in ministry unless I was preparing to lead Sunday worship. At the moment
I'm working on an album that, I think, will be called "Shattered" that will
deal with some of the painful experiences of life and the search for meaning
and significance that people deal with. I am writing it mainly with people
on the street in mind and hope to incorporate this into our outreach and
conversations with people.

Appreciate your prayers for us so much in this challenging time. Especially
me with the kids... oops! Time to make the school run!

Peace,
